When I was growing up I watched tons of content regarding anthropomorphic animals. That was practically 99% of Disney's programming back then. They were fun and I never once thought about these humanoid beasts in any strange ways. Why would I? They are animals and cartoons to boot. Even as I got into my teenage years, these were always just the cool beasts I grew up with. Honestly, that's why it was so surprising to see these characters from my youth changed so thoroughly by fan artists. I can't quite put my finger on when this was. It had to be college at some point. You get into these situations where topics like this come up especially if drinks are involved and there's an open computer nearby. You get the idea.

Suffice it to say I didn't want to understand the culture, but it's hard not to recognize how neat these fan renditions are. Now every time I watch something with talking animals, or play a game like Star Fox, all I can think about is what the alternative might be. That said, this idea brought a smile to my face. It's still weird, but these artists take things to a whole new level. In any event — let's just get to the fan art already.

25 The Koopa Gang

DeviantArt

BITEGHOST drew this picture on DeviantArt. What if Nintendo went back to the drawing board and reimagined Mario to be more in line with the film? You know like have it be Grand Theft Auto mixed with Super Mario Bros. That doesn't mean I want and or need Mario to shoot a gun, or that he needs to swear, or be more intense, or anything else like that. This drawing just brings to mind a fun idea of Bowser and his kids being mobsters. It's not the worst idea I've ever had.

24 Pokéninjas Strike

DeviantArt

DAV-19 drew this picture on DeviantArt. If there was ever an opposite of Pikachu, it'd be Meowth, but that's just coming from the anime and my years of watching them clash. It should be Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon: Let's Go Meowth and you should get to play with Team Rocket in that version. Now that would get me excited. Anyway, these two look pretty good as human girls and ninjas to boot. I'd even be down to play that.

23 A Kingdom Of Pretty Boys

DeviantArt

ShiroiNeko-sama drew this picture on DeviantArt. Did you know Sora was originally a little lion boy when the concept for Kingdom Hearts was starting? It's true! While the original concept art looks cool, from a story standpoint I'm glad he got turned into a human instead.

We're humans now too, hyuk.

With that in mind, this artist imagines Square Enix going in another direction not only making Sora human, but also Donald and Goofy too. While they do look good, some part of me feels uneasy about those two looking so pretty.

22 The Dragoon Is In

DeviantArt

Nyausi drew this picture on DeviantArt. What's my favorite character in Final Fantasy IX? There are so many good ones to choose from. In terms of a well-rounded cast, I think this one has it all. Freya is definitely up there for me, but she's definitely not someone I idolized as a beauty model. A rat? Get out of here. Now that she's turned into a lady via this drawing, well, maybe it's a bit more alluring. Whether she's beautiful on the outside, or the inside, Freya remains one of the coolest female heroes in Final Fantasy's pantheon.

21 HumanTale

VampireMeerkat

VampireMeerkat drew this picture on DeviantArt. This game was practically made for the furry community. Toby Fox was the sole creator of this indie darling making the music and programming the whole thing. He did have some help on the side via some tertiary characters and some art, but by and large, it was a one-man show. That makes it even more astounding of an achievement. If you haven't played, well, what's wrong with you? I kind of get it. If you follow forums ... oh boy are fans "dedicated" to these characters. I'll leave it at that.

20 A Theory So Crazy It Must Be True

DeviantArt

Arvalis drew this picture on DeviantArt. Of all the characters and video game series at Nintendo's disposal, this one fits best with this category. None other thanStar Fox. This reimagining could fit into a popular fan theory regarding this franchise. It's said that the racer in F-Zero, James McCloud, is actually Fox's father.

Slippy looks even worse as a man.

He was transformed into a human when he fell into a vortex and thus converted his ship into a racer. I like to imagine that's the theory this artist is going with, turning Fox's crew into humans for the same reason.

19 That Bear Has Abs To Spare

DeviantArt

BluC drew this picture on DeviantArt. Nothing weird about a ripped guy carrying around a bird-girl on his back is there? This one doesn't work so much in the human realm. It feels more strange than seeing this bear and bird duo go at it like animals. There's something unsettling about a bear turned human who still embodies all its cartoonish characteristics — but it's extremely neat all the same. And at this point,Banjo fans would be happy to get any version of the bear and the bird.

18 Mass Effect: Human

DeviantArt

Carrinth drew this picture on DeviantArt. If you decided to play as FemShep in Mass Effect then you probably romanced Garrus. Even though he's kind of a creepy bug creature he's also one heck of a dude whether you're talking about his battle skills, or his personality. Looks are only skin deep, but hey, making him into a human doesn't hurt. Also this art style is very reminiscent of Gurren Lagann, which is an awesome anime. If you've never seen it rectify that immediately.

17 Dirty Pair

DeviantArt

iRainbow-Bacon drew this picture on DeviantArt. The PS2 has three great platforming mascots: Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper. Of those three I would rank Sly and his gang last. That said they are all very good and deserve some much needed love this generation.

Why does the fox say…to the raccoon?

Crazily enough Sly is the only one with a girlfriend. Carmelita started out as the hunter, but overtime their affection became real. This artwork is just sweet.

16 How Do I Even?

DeviantArt

QuincySoulz drew this picture on DeviantArt. Of all the anthropomorphic creatures out there across all video games, I understand Five Nights at Freddy's the least. The appeal in playing isn't there for me, and I certainly don't get the creepy fandom that has arisen. There's a deep dark rabbit hole of people who drew the cast in all kinds of ways. Compared to those search results, this doodle is pretty tame although they still look disturbing as humans.

15 Pokéninjas Sure Are Trendy

DeviantArt

Tamtamdi drew this picture on DeviantArt. Aron is not my favorite Pokémon. I think that goes without saying. It and the evolutions are pretty boring looking like metal versions of Ryhorn. That said, boy do I love this reimagining. A metal ninja with a giant mask? Heck ya I can dig it! You could also say this is an idea ripped from Monster Hunter. Is he an Aron, or is he wearing an Aron. That's what I'm not sure of.

14 Mr. Heat Miser

DeviantArt

Pocki07 drew this picture on DeviantArt. Between Crash and Spyro, I was more of a Crash Bandicoot guy. Spyro's games were fun though and I'm pretty pumped to play the remaster in September.

What would those sheep say about Spyro now?

There are so many games to play that month, but I will admit Spyro looks pretty dapper. I bet he could ignite the fires that dwell inside the ladies very easily.

13 That Dino Style

DeviantArt

Gp6712dp drew this picture on DeviantArt. Super Mario's classic steed, Yoshi, is all kinds of cool as a human. This fan art verison of Yoshi further proves that the cast of Mario characters could totalyl work —without sacrificing the series' fun-loving aesthic— as humans working to defeat the villainous Koopa King. This Yoshi version is extremely cool, and the full and complete background takes it to another level. Now we just need Yoshi in Super Mario Odyssey

12 Parappa The Man

DeviantArt

KattlinYaKno drew this picture on DeviantArt. I can't think of any other PlayStation mascots, let alone video games in general, that are associated with rap music. Parappa the Rapper was a trendsetter, but sadly the trend ended with those games. There were two, three if you count UmJammer Lammy, and that was that. Will we ever see Parappa again? Who's to say, but you can bet the fans will keep him alive with fly art like this. We gotta believe!

11 Ring Bearer

DeviantArt

Addixtion21 drew this picture on DeviantArt. Namco became famous for Pac-Man and a ton of other arcade hits back in the 80s. They're still cranking out amazing series thanks to their merger, creating Bandai Namco, but I digress.

Are those ears, or is that crazy anime hair?

Point is in the 90s they tried their hand at introducing their own cute platformer via Klonoa. He may not have the same appeal as others, like Sonic, but his following is vast if not a bit more obscure.

10 Mad Men

DeviantArt

EZstrongs drew this picture on DeviantArt. I think it's safe to say the Angry Birds bubble has burst. What a ride right? The first game was an amazing showcase for touch devices that was fun and simple to use. The more popular it got the bigger it's head became before it eventually exploded probably with the release of the CG film. I'm surprised Sony didn't go further and make them humans like those above. Would it have been better? I have no idea, but my guess is no.

9 Human Crossing

DeviantArt

Fungicide drew this picture on DeviantArt. Starting at the top and moving left to right we have Blanca, Poncho, Lucky, Sable Roscoe, Goldie, Tom Nook, K.K. Slider, and Crazy Redd. Fungicide has created a few other montages like this one, highlighting his favorite Animal Crossing characters in human form. Thankfully it has the original creatures at the bottom otherwise I would have no idea who anyone was besides Tom Nook. Other than that Animal Crossing characters escape me. Not really a fan, but hey, great art!

8 Amaterasu In The Flesh

DeviantArt

Ladidagab drew this picture on DeviantArt. Okami might be a bit more obscure than Klonoa even though the original game has been ported a ton. I keep buying it to support Capcom because I want, nay, I need a sequel. That's how it works, right?

This could technically be canon?

Anyway to those unaware the game stars Amaterasu who is a sun goddess that resides in the shape of our young wolf hero. Seeing a fan remake her into a human isn't actually strange when you think about it. Gods are ethereal so what really is a body to them?

7 Tomba And Clank

DeviantArt

Rongs1234 drew this picture on DeviantArt. If I were forced to choose what my favorite PS2 platformer was it would be Ratchet and Clank and more specifically the second game. It was way ahead of its time with introducing RPG elements into shooters. You're welcome Borderlands and Call of Duty. Anyway I found some art depicting both heroes as humans, but they were a bit cruder. This is the best drawing I could find that I liked. A game about a young boy and his robot sounds just as fun.

6 Darwin Kong Evolution

DeviantArt

Steffuh drew this picture on DeviantArt. In this picture we have Chunky Kong, Diddy Kong, Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong, and of course, Donkey Kong. If I spent more time writing this I could transform that introduction into something that resembles the Donkey Kong rap. No one can top that little number on the awkward scale of awesomeness. Now of all the Donkey Kong Country games this is the one I'm least familiar with. I sadly never had a Nintendo 64 growing up. I've played it since and the game is, eh, okay.
